Until recently, I only knew a few radio hits from Kesha. I remember thinking she had a unique aesthetic when first hitting the scene — less airbrushed and sanitized than her contemporaries. Her voice and musical persona were a little rougher than many young female artists in her generation.
I did tune into her lawsuit and the commentary surrounding it but, that’s not the focus of this post. But, you can see the huge creative shift from that situation reflected in her work.
I Listened to Ke$ha’s Discography
These are the songs I added to my playlist. I grabbed a few pop-nostalgia songs from Animal and Warrior for my gym workout playlist. I was surprised that I liked so many songs from Rainbow — I only knew Praying from that iconic Grammy performance.
I don’t think I’d heard any of the songs from High Road or Gag Order previously. But, both albums are worth a listen. I enjoyed them more than her earlier work.
Animal (2010)
- Your Love Is My Drug
- Dancing with Tears in My Eyes
Warrior (2012)
- Die Young
- Crazy Kids
- Only Wanna Dance with You
Rainbow (2017)
- Let Em Talk
- Praying
- Learn to Let Go
- Finding You
- Old Flames
- Godzilla
High Road (2020)
- My Own Dance
- Chasing Thunder
- Summer
Gag Order (2023)
- Something to Believe In
- Happy
- Too Far Gone
Color Combinations Inspired by Ke$ha’s Album Art
While listening to her albums, I put together some color palettes based on her album cover art. Interestingly, her use of color dropped off significantly around the time of her lawsuit. Creatively, you can see how that time affected her in both the songs and the presentation of her work.

I love the pink/purple clash in this cover. It’s fresh and playful — would be great inspiration for a beauty brand campaign.

This highly-saturated color combination is festive — perfect for a night event. I could see myself using it for a brand launch or open house.

I’m always a fan of a classic pink-and-blue combination. This one is unexpected with the addition of gold and orange-red.

These pretty colors are toned down compared to the earlier albums. The visuals offered a lot of white space so, I sampled those light tones to balance the soft pinks.

The most mature of her albums, this cover has little color in it. But, I chose a lavender-blue from Ke$ha’s eyes as a pop of color for the neutral shades.
