The Grateful Dead's influence on graphic design is as legendary and enduring as their music. Emerging from the counterculture movement of the 1960s, the band's visual aesthetic has left an indelible mark on the world of graphic design, creating a unique fusion of art and music that continues to inspire artists and designers today. From their iconic logos and album covers to their psychedelic concert posters, the Grateful Dead’s visual legacy is a testament to the power of creative expression. One of the most recognizable elements of the Grateful Dead's visual identity is the "Steal Your Face" logo, featuring a [...]

I listened to OutKast's Discography and created color palettes from their album covers. Their first few covers were colorful and cartoonish. Later, their colors were more true-to-life and restrained. For the most part, the art has unexpected pops of color that are perfect for fun designs. Stay inspired with these color combinations from a Virginia Web Developer. Next on my list, I listened to Ariana Grande's discography and pulled color inspiration from her album covers. For her first few albums, the designs featured black and white images with a restrained color palette. Later, the designs added neutral, nude tones with some soft, pastel accents. As a whole, the covers are a solid source of safe, crowd-pleasing colors. Stay inspired with these color combinations from my Virginia Marketing Agency. Ariana Grande's Discography I listened to all of Ariana Grande's discography in order and these are the songs I added to my playlist. Yours Truly (2013) Better Left Unsaid [...]

I listened to Amy Winehouse’s Discography and these are the songs I added to my playlist.

Although she only released two albums, Amy Winehouse was a sensation during her career. Her aesthetic crossed over from music to design quickly — a cross between early 60s soul-girl glamour and post-punk edginess. Amy Winehouse Impact & Discography Known for her deep, contralto vocals and retro-eclectic songs, Amy Winehouse took the music world by storm in the 2000s. Much of pop music was sanitized and "managed" — and she was not. Fans embraced her brash humor and rugged visual style which balanced out her soulful vocals. At the same time, the media focused more on her troubled personal life [...]

An Unfiltered Life

In these essays, I challenge myself to write dangerously — focused on the ideas and feelings at the time. I set them aside, for publishing later. So, the events detailed in the essays do not always correlate with the date they are released on my website.  I just participated in an event with my extended family and my parent's friends. People who have known me my whole life (and about whom I am generally neutral). At least, I actively engage with them in neutral ways. Maybe we disagree on politics or lead different lifestyles but, I generally don't interact with [...]

Would You Really Go Back If You Could?

In these essays, I challenge myself to write dangerously — focused on the ideas and feelings at the time. I set them aside, for publishing later. So, the events detailed in the essays do not always correlate with the date they are released on my website.  I’ve been thinking about time travel. My renewed interest began when I read Before the Coffee Gets Cold By Toshikazu Kawaguchi. The story hit me at a particular time, a season of inventorying and evaluating my life.  Before the Coffee Gets Cold Overview From the opening lines, the story roots the fantasy and science [...]

Time Off and Time On

In these essays, I challenge myself to write dangerously — focused on the ideas and feelings at the time. I set them aside, for publishing later. So, the events detailed in the essays do not always correlate with the date they are released on my website.  I google things that Google cannot answer. Why does my leg hurt? Where did I leave my phone? I mentally compose forum threads — never to publish. Recently, I've thought about anonymously asking the masses about how I vacation. I'm only looking for validation. All other points of view will be disregarded. I want [...]
