prep

1. Cut the pieces

Start by cutting out the pieces for your gnome. The shapes are pretty simple so, you can freehand your version. Also, you can print out the template below (at 8.5″ x 11″) to trace the shapes.

Save your scraps to use later. They are the stuffing for the ornament.

2. Glue the layers

Glue the layers together to create the front of your gnome. Make sure you snip off the little glue strings.

You can follow the video above to see how much glue to add.

3. Glue the loop

Next, glue the loop in place. This is where you’ll attach the tree hook when you’re done.

4

Make sure it’s secure by giving it a slight tug.

4. Add the back

Add hot glue around the outline of the gnome, on the back side. Make sure you leave a small spot without glue. You’ll need this to stuff it later.

6

Once you lay it on the back, gently press flat.

5. Cut the gnome out.

Now, cut the gnome out from the felt backing. Trim as close as you can to the outline of the gnome.

7

As you trim, be careful to keep a smooth edge.

6. Stuff with scraps.

Fill the hole with your felt scraps. You may need to trim them smaller so that they fit easily.

Add enough stuffing to give the gnome dimension. Don’t overstuff to the point of straining the seams.

7.  Close the hole.

Close the hole by gluing the sides together. It won’t take much glue.

9

Press together gently to make sure it’s sealed.
