If you want to shun the saccharine sentiments of the season, create an edgy, interactive sale to keep your customers on their toes. People love the thrill of the chase (especially in February). And this hunt will have them chasing bargains.
Heartbreaker Sale
Hold a Heartbreaker Sale by making or buying broken heart tags. Use them to mark BOGO items (Buy One Get One) around the store. You can choose the savings for the whole store (i.e. BOGO free or BOGO 50%).
To get the most out of your sale, decorate for it several weeks before Valentine’s Day.
- Use the broken heart motif around your store and place signage explaining the upcoming event. Although the sale hasn’t started yet, let people know about the upcoming savings.
- Tell your retail clerks to treat the broken hearts like a game. They should explain it to customers by saying, “Welcome! We’re holding our Heartbreaker Sale for Valentine’s Day. Look around the store for broken hearts. All of those items are part of our BOGO sale. Put two items together to save at the register!”
- Tease the idea on social media leading up to the event. You can put together combinations of inventory that would make great gift pairs. Photograph or video them with their broken heart tags. It’s an exciting visual that will catch your follower’s attention.
- Don’t forget to extend the sale to your online store. Create a collection of sale items on a separate landing page. Explain the sale thoroughly and make sure the terms are clear before checkout. Also, add prompts on the checkout page to remind people to pick a second item if they only have one “Heartbreaker” gift in their cart.
By running this sale correctly, you can increase the price point of each sale while also delighting your customers.
