Was there ever a color more closely tied to a design aesthetic than shabby chic and soft blue? (Of course, a sprinkling of ballet-shoe pink). As I pull together color palettes for my office makeover, bold and bright colors draw me. I'm feeling frenetic — that inspired, windy autumn mood. Any change of seasons fills me with creative energy — and fall especially so. Lately, I've been giving myself permission to relish things I enjoy — no matter how tawdry or trite. I wrote about the 2020 Pantone color of the year, Classic Blue, with a yawn. I've been in paint chip paradise with my impending office makeover. Surprisingly, nature-inspired colors have been drawing my eyes the most. It's a creative step back into my past — those hues that looked so sophisticated and calming to my childish eyes. Now, they feel fresh — especially if they break away from the Arizona desert and California beach tones of the past few years. They're moody yet, honest. Tones from your great-aunt's sitting room.  

About two years after my living room furniture project, I found myself hunting for that same shade of chalk paint to makeover a dresser. This piece was my great-grandmother's and came to me recently. It had a lovely shape but, the finish was in poor shape after being stored. Also, it was musty.
